It’s time again for another round of clean beauty products that I’m loving when we travel! This version is slightly more focused on the winter weather, even though I know it’s nearly spring. Our last post was all about how we are now eating a plant-based diet, and when it comes to products I use on my skin and body, I have always been a proponent of using more natural ingredients. The content in this post is not in any way sponsored; I have personally used all of these products and still do today, so please reach out with any questions!
Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream

My skin isn’t naturally great, no matter how you want to examine it. I do have good genes that keep me looking young, but otherwise, it has a mind of its own. I’m a bit over 35 and still have acne, huge pores on my nose, and increasing wrinkles every day. In the warmer temperatures my skin is super oily within minutes while in the colder climates it becomes dry and peels if you look at it wrong. And that’s just my face! I kid, but really it’s been a lifelong balancing act. Which is all to say I was very happy to stumble upon this moisturizer while browsing for products for our trip to Banff over New Year’s in 2019. The Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream is a thick, golden colored cream that gave my face its much needed balance during that cold week. If I recall correctly, the high temperatures were around 30 degrees Farenheit before you factored in the wind on the mountains. I used this both day and night and after that week, there was a noticeable difference in the lines on my forehead and around my smile. I liked it so much I’ve continued to use it at night since we got back and I intend to keep doing so.
One CBD Products

Now this next item isn’t something that I recommend for travel, but hang with me for a minute. I am a naturally anxious person. For many years, I would experience very high anxiety before and while traveling, especially during flights, boat rides, or snowy winding mountain roads. Over the years I’ve gone through periods of trial and error to figure out how to reduce my stressors so I can actually enjoy trips. Essential oils were one thing that worked for me. Recently, there has been a huge buzz around cannabidiol, or CBD infused products. These products contain no THC meaning they do not get you high. I would describe the feeling as more free, such that my anxious feelings went away but I still had all my normal focus and attention to detail and in some instances, even more. The One CBD line has amazing organic quality and all of their products are effective. I especially like that there are small doses in some of the products, like the gummies, so you can figure out what works for you. My hands down favorite is the salve since it’s concentrated and feels great to relieve the pain from sore muscles say, after a winter day of skiing or boarding. Now, I say all this with the giant caveat that it is not A good idea to fly with CBD, since many countries still haven’t deemed it legal. I hope someday soon it is, but until then, I use these capsules leading up to the trip to help keep myself collected as I prepare for traveling. That said, travel at your own risk.
Hair Dance Powder Dry Shampoo

I have had quite an adventure finding the next item on my list: dry shampoo. A decade ago, had you asked me if I used it, I would have laughed in your face. Now, since I only wash my hair twice a week, it’s a product I’ve learned to depend on. When we travel on a long haul flight (like I am as I write this!), my typical plan is to wash my hair no earlier than the night before the trip, but preferably the morning of the day we’re leaving. Then, depending on the travel route, it’ll easily be one to two days until I see the inside of a bathroom containing a shower. While there are many products I carry-on with me to increase my comfort and hygiene over those hours, dry shampoo is a more recent addition. In the winter, dry shampoo is handy to cut down on full shampoos in the shower since that can lead to scalp dryness in the drier air. On our 51-hour journey to the Maldives, we had nearly a full day layover in London that I wanted to look presentable preserving my washed hair till at least our arrival at the end of those 51 hours. It was the first trip that I had the brilliant idea to use the dry shampoo while on the flight. I had been accustomed to using it after a workout or in the morning to try and perk up my roots for some time, but had never considered its benefits while in the air. And honestly, it was a random magazine article blurb (that I can not recall to cite here) that led me to this decision; the article stated that dry shampoo is intended to sit in your hair for a bit before you rub it in. So why not do that on a plane, while you catch a few hours of shut-eye and crush your mane into your neck pillow? Back to the 51-hour journey, I did just that and the results were great! No need to even really run your fingers through the roots, but it does give it a nice little lift if you do. I used my travel sized wet brush and combed it out and nothing was matted down. Also, since this tip was so successful, it’s made me completely reevaluate the way I use dry shampoo. Instead of after an activity or sleeping, I use it before and the results are easily twice as good if not better! All of that to say, the Hair Dance Powder only has 5 ingredients and comes in a perfect travel size 1 ounce bottle with an easy “shake it in” applicator. It’s a bit awkward, so I do it quickly in the bathroom (when I brush my teeth after the big meal service), but it’s so worth it to not look like you slept on your hair for the last 8 hours…which I just did!
Odacite Blue Aura Cleansing Water

One more product for this round of winter clean beauty products and it’s a makeup remover and toner in one. Odacite Blue Aura Cleansing Water is a product I stumbled on by accident. I placed an order last spring or summer from The Detox Market (I order every few months, so I can’t quite place which one this was) and I spent enough money to get a free box of products. Never one to say no to trying new things, especially from a retailer with all-clean ingredients, I happily added the discount code to my order at checkout. The bottle is a gorgeous, thick frosted glass filled with a beautiful blue liquid. I give the bottle a good shake, remove the screw-top lid and stopper, and pour it onto a few organic cotton rounds. After wearing a full face of makeup for an entire day, I use 4 pads to remove everything, except my eye makeup (this would be a little too drying for your sensitive eyelids). I never feel the need to wash or use a sponge or scrub afterwards because it is so clean already. Bonus, it acts like a toner too, so no need for another product, extra convenient while on the road. In the winter, I follow this with the Golden Hour Recovery Cream and my skin is all set for bed; cleaned, toned, and moisturized.
I hope you’ve enjoyed a few of my clean beauty travel recommendations for the winter months. I know it’s nearly spring and practically summer (especially in Texas), but these are great for using all year-round too!
